Lake Eklutna, Alaska

There are about 15 pictures below of the Lake Ekltuna Trail we hiked. This was our first hike ever, we did about 9 miles. It stretches out to 12 miles (so roundtrip it is 24 miles.) At the 12th mile there is a glacier, we will eventually make it there. (Aunt Diane-the 4th picture down I took for you-it's a red headed woodpecker-at least that is what someone told us. I know how much you love birds.)

Loving your blog! Tx for thinking of me when you saw the woodpecker. This guy would probably be either the Downy or Hairy Woodpecker. There are only about 5 varieties that make their way up to your neck of the woods. The Downy and Hairy are similar with spotted wings and a white back. The redheaded woodpecker has an obvious red head, but doesn't go to AK. You might also see two varieties of woodpecker with yellow heads - so keep your eyes open!
